What (or who) drove Calvin Harris to sing “My Way” in his own way.
We all know Calvin Harris and what he’s famous for (and no, it’s not for being Taylor Swift’s ex.). The Scottish native is known around the world for his great music and as one of the world’s highest paid DJs.
He recently released “My Way,” a track that surprised fans everywhere mainly because they linked it to his relationship/breakup with Taylor Swift and, more importantly, because it had his own vocals on it. Harris has collaborated with many recording artists in the past including Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and many more but rarely did we hear his own voice on one of his tracks. Although it’s not a first (“Summer” and “Feel So Close” featured his vocals as well) but it came as a surprise for most fans when it was released on September 16.
All this gets us to ask; what prompted one of the world’s best DJs who usually collaborates with the biggest names in the industry to use his own voice? The answer is: Pharrell, and who else!
As Harris told Zane Lowe on Apple Beats 1,
[There’s] only so far you can go with a voice like mine, and there’s a limit to the range… Actually, Pharrell told me something about hitting the notes. Occasionally people try to persuade me to sing again and he was one of those people.
He said … it’s not about hitting the notes, it’s about getting the emotion and the feeling and the character across. Once he said that to me, I started looking at myself [and] my voice differently because I was like, ‘Hmm, someone like him picked up on that.’
In case you didn’t get to hear it yet, this is “My Way.”
