Coachella may be moving to New York for an east coast edition of the festival.
History has shown that New York isn’t a very successful venue when it comes to events. However, the latest Governors Ball success led the people behind Coachella to rethink the status of the city.
Coachella has been happening in the same place since its first edition in 1999; the Empire Polo Club in California. The event will still be held there for 2016 but the organizers are thinking about an expansion towards the Big Apple and the place they have in mind is Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens where Coachella will be named “Panorama.”
Rumor has it that this is taking place in June 2016 which could be bad news for the Governors Ball people having the two big events so close to one another as Tom Russell, head of Founders Entertainment, organizers of the NY festival said in an interview.
The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy.
What do you think about this? Should there be a Coachella (Panorama) in NY?
