In just two days, Beyonce dropped a new song, a music video, performed it in the Super Bowl and announced a tour.
Because how else would she do it!?
Bey dropped “Formation” out of nowhere on Saturday, February 7 along with the music video. The song is available for streaming and download for free on, yeah you guessed right, Tidal.
The music video has been viewed as controversial considering that it tackles matters like being black in America, Hurricane Katrina and Black Lives Matter. Beyonce and the music video director, Melina Matsoukas, also received momentary backlash for allegedly using footage from That B.E.A.T. without permission but was resolved later. That B.E.A.T, a documentary directed by Abteen Bagheri and produced by Chris Black discusses New Orleans’s bounce music and dance scene in 2012.
“Formation” got a special guest appearance; an adorable dancing Blue Ivy. Another awesome thing about “Formation” is the “Formation Collection” which includes shirts, hats, bags, iPhone cases and many more branded with lines from the song like “I got hot sauce in my bag” because duh..
“Formation” got a special debut when Beyonce performed the hit during the Super Bowl halftime show, sharing the stage with Coldplay and Bruno Mars. The queen also announced “Formation” World tour, which will kick off in Miami on April 27.
